Adele was named the 9th richest young music star in the Sunday Times Rich List and is worth an estimated �6m, but she hates giving so much of her dosh to the tax man.

The singer - whose albums 19 and 21 both went to No 1 - doesn't think she's getting a good deal.

'I'm mortified to have to pay 50 per cent!' Adele, 23, told Q magazine. '[While] I use the NHS, I can't use public transport any more.

'Trains are always late, most state schools are sh*t and I've gotta give you, like, 4 million quid - are you having a laugh?

'When I got my tax bill in from 19, I was ready to go and buy a gun and randomly open fire.'

But Adele's strong words have triggered a public backlash on Twitter.

'God that Adele pop singer is such a moron. Her comments on tax are both ignorant and self-aggrandising. I'm pretty sure it's just her way,' one critic Tweeted.

Another added: 'Poor Adele bemoanes a �4million tax bill, I would gladly swap her tax bills,you earn it you owe it...'
