Jack White, wife Karen Elson 'throwing a divorce party'

Jack White and Karen Elson announced they plan to divorce after six years of marriage.

There's no use in crying about a breakup.

Instead, Jack White and Karen Elson plan to celebrate the end of their marriage with a party.

The couple, who wed June 1, 2005, jointly announced their plans to divorce on Friday, hours before they host "a positive swing bang hum dinger" in Nashville.

"In honor of that time shared, we are throwing a divorce party," the two said in a statement.

The goal is to "re-affirm our friendship and celebrate the past and future with close friends and family."

"We remain dear and trusted friends and co-parents to our wonderful children Scarlett and Henry Lee," the statement said. "We feel so fortunate for the time we have shared and the time we will continue to spend both separately and together watching our children grow."

Scarlett is 5 years old; Henry Lee is 3.

In the invitation posted online, it is stated "the party will include dancing, photos, memories, and drinks with alcohol in them."

It's requested that only the "close personal friends and family" invited attend, "so please no plus ones or dead beats."

"Please help us celebrate together this anniversary of the making and breaking of the scared union of marriage with our best friends and animals," the invite concluded.

The announcement comes just a few months after White, 35, revealed his band, The White Stripes, had "officially ended" and would "make no further recordings or perform live."

He and bandmate Meg White, 36, attributed the breakup to a "myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band have it stay that way."

The duo initially tried passing themselves off as siblings, though it was later revealed they were married in 1996.

The Whites divorced in 2000, and when White wed 32-year-old Elson, a model, five years later, Meg served as maid of honor and the official announcement claimed it was his "first marriage."
