With her eccentric outfits and electrifying stage routines, Jessie J oozes cool from every porcelain-skinned pore.

Not only did her single Price Tag shoot straight to the top of the charts in February, but we've all started copying her patterned tights and goth chic look.

So was she the coolest girl in school? Not exactly.

In fact, the 23-year-old singer was so unpopular during her days at Mayfield High in Dagenham she was on the receiving end of daily taunts due to her dorky appearance.

An old school friend of Jessie's exclusively tells Now: 'Jessica was quiet and looked really geeky and plain at school.

'She could never get a boyfriend and was really unlucky in love.

'While all her school friends were starting to have relationships, she was always left out.

'She was always seen as the ugly duckling and was so shy she wouldn't even say if she fancied someone because she knew it probably wouldn't be mutual.'

Poor Jessie, who was cruelly nicknamed 'Bugs Bunny' because she had prominent teeth, was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat at the age of 11 and at 18 suffered a mild stroke.

'She was an easy target as she was so quiet,' recalls her pal.

'Her tormentors seized the opportunity to tease her for the tablets she had to take.

'They called her "alien" for years due to her medication for the heart
condition, which turned her skin almost a shade of green.'

'Those bullies were really awful.'
