It has been reported that the death knell sounded for Cheryl Cole?s American TV career, after she turned up in LA looking like and extra from Dynasty.

The ?Promise This? hitmaker was fired from the US version of The X Factor earlier this week and insiders claim that it was her bizarre purple trousers, orange top, BIG hair combo that made Fox bosses realise she wasn?t right for the judges role.

A US source told The News Of The World that executives were shocked to see Cheryl?s outfit at her first X Factor USA outing, because they expected her to be much more glamorous and elegant for her American debut.

An insider told the publication:

?We thought we were getting a sex symbol ? we ended up with Barbra Streisand from Meet The Fockers.?

?Cheryl had been sold to us by Simon as this style icon who would take America by storm.

?We?d seen numerous tapes of her on the British show and she did look sensational. Then she turned up in LA looking like Barbra.

? We couldn?t believe it. It was clear as day this just wasn?t going to work.?

It was also said that Cheryl?s accent was the straw that broke the camel?s back and when bosses realised that auditionees couldn?t understand a word she said during the Chicago tryouts, they knew her time was up.

The insider added:

?In that city you are right into the heart of middle America. If you talk in broad Geordie you may as well be speaking in a foreign language.

?People in the audience were saying, ?We can?t understand her.? Bosses quickly knew they had a massive problem.?
