Simon Cowell has confirmed that Mariah Carey will have a key role on the US X Factor.

But the music mogul says the singer, who is heavily pregnant with twins, will not be a judge.

Mariah, 41, is due to give birth in May, so she will not be available for the auditions.

But Simon, 51, says she'll be involved later on in the series.

'Her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with,' he told DJ Jackie Brown on her US radio show.

'She'll be involved in some form. I literally adore her. I love her to bits.'

So far, only Simon and producer LA Reid have officially been revealed as judges on US X Factor, although Cheryl ?Cole, 27, is also in the running.
