Shania Twain "didn't want to live" after her split from Robert 'Mutt' Lange.

The 'You're Still The One' singer said her husband's alleged affair with her friend and assistant Marie-Anne Thiebaud - which led to the end of their marriage after 14 years together in 2008 - left her feeling like she couldn't continue.

Speaking on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' in an interview which will air later today, the 45-year-old country star told how she even wrote a letter to Marie-Anne asking her: "Why are you torturing me? Let it go, please. Find love somewhere else from someone else."

Speaking of the letter, she added: "I know it was pathetic. But we all have pathetic moments. No one is above this type of low."

Why are you torturing me? Let it go, please. Find love somewhere else from someone else.

Shania added, however, the divorce eventually became "a very positive thing," as she "needed the wake-up."

It also led her to turn to one of the only people she felt she could after the divorce, Marie-Anne's ex-husband, Swiss businessman Frederic Thiebaud.

Their relationship has since blossomed into romance then marriage, and they tied the knot in Puerto Rico on New Year's Day (01.01.11).

Shania has also written in her forthcoming book, 'From This Moment On', she has been able to forgive Mutt and Marie-Anne.

She writes: "Despite everything, I still loved my husband. And I still loved my friend. I put myself in their shoes with the understanding that accidents happen, we're all human, and we all make mistakes.

"Eventually, I came to the point of accepting the end of my marriage."
