Catherine Zeta-Jones revealed she has been struggling with bipolar disorder since last year.

Just a few short weeks after Catherine Zeta-Jones sought treatment for bipolar disorder, the Oscar- and Tony-winning actress is encouraging others to do the same if they, too, are struggling.

"This is a disorder that affects millions of people and I am one of them," the 41-year-old told People in a statement.

"If my revelation of having bipolar II [disorder] has encouraged one person to seek help, then it is worth it," she continued. "There is no need to suffer silently and there is no shame in seeking help."

Zeta-Jones' rep said last week that she had completed a five-day in-patient stay "in a mental health facility" before starting work on two new movies.

The actress' troubles were largely attributed to the stress of caring for husband Michael Douglas, 66, as he underwent treatment for cancer last year.

The couple, who wed in 2000, has two kids together ? 10-year-old son Dylan and 8-year-old daughter Carys.
